What is a Dental Laser?

Laser Dentistry – White Plains Family Dental

The iPlus® all-tissue laser makes no-shot, no-drill fillings possible.

A dental laser produces a very narrow, intense beam of light energy. When laser light comes in contact with tissue, it causes a reaction. The laser’s beam of light can remove or shape hard tissues (teeth) or soft tissues (gums).

Some dental lasers are used for surgery, others to enhance whitening and still others for removing tooth structure to restore a tooth or eliminate disease. The beauty of dental lasers is that they are precise and affect the surrounding tissue much less than traditional techniques, which means less discomfort and pain.

With lasers, bleeding is minimized, less anesthesia is necessary, swelling is controlled and there is usually little, if any, postoperative discomfort.

The Advantages of Laser Dentistry

Lasers have been used in dentistry for over two decades and are an entirely safe alternative to the drill or scalpel. The laser doesn’t make any whining sounds or other annoying noises, so you can just sit back and relax.

Laser dentistry advantages include:

Safe, fast and effective non-surgical gum disease care

A laser can be used by Dr. Alidadi to comfortably reverse gum damage and regenerate lost support. The procedure will take far less time than conventional methods and causes far less anxiety and discomfort.

No anesthesia, no injection, no drill

Lasers can be used to fill a cavity when the cavity is a safe distance from the nerve. In this case, no numbing or anesthesia is necessary. Less tooth structure is removed than with conventional drilling methods. Another advantage is that the laser prepares your tooth in such a way that your filling lasts longer.

Ultimate comfort

With a laser there’s none of the vibration or noise that a dental drill produces. And because of the laser’s precision, there’s also little swelling, no bleeding and little to no post-operative discomfort.

Leaves healthy tooth structure in place

The laser’s pinpoint accuracy means Dr. Alidadi can leave as much healthy tooth structure in place as possible, allowing you to keep your natural teeth longer.

Our Dental Lasers

Laser dentistry uses intense beams of light projected by a dental laser. Dr. Alidadi has four different types of dental lasers, which accomplish four different kinds of dentistry: diagnosis, gum disease treatment, cutting hard tissue and treating soft-tissue.

    • Diagnostic laser for early cavity detection

Laser Dentistry – White Plains Family DentalOur DIAGNOdent® diagnostic laser is used by Dr. Alidadi to help identify tiny cavities. It is good for early detection of cavities and helps to make minimally invasive dentistry possible.

    • Millennium laser for gum disease treatment using LANAP

LANAP laserUsing the Millennium laser, Dr. Alidadi can treat gum disease in a minimally invasive procedure called LANAP that requires no cutting or sutures. Dr. Alidadi is certified to use this special protocol, which can speed up the treatment and recovery times for most patients with severe gum disease.

    • Waterlase® laser for drill-less dentistry

Laser Dentistry – White Plains Family DentalOur Biolase Waterlase iPlus laser uses laser-energized water and air to cut enamel, teeth and bone without contact, vibration, heat or pressure. The atomized spray of water and air continuously re-hydrates the tooth, preventing pain and heat discomfort.

  • ezlase™ soft tissue laser for comfortable gum treatment

Laser Dentistry – White Plains Family DentalOur Biolase ezlase laser is used by Dr. Alidadi on soft tissue in gum disease treatment, frenectomies and to help revitalize gum tissue. The ezlase produces a laser light that’s excellent for precision soft tissue incisions.
